Minimally invasive surgery, or laparoscopic surgery or keyhole surgery as they are also known, is a surgical technique of carrying out an operation without having to make a large incision. Some gynaecological conditions including endometriosis, fibroids and ovarian cysts sometimes cannot be found by a physical examination alone. Other tests, X-ray, or ultrasound may still leave some uncertainty. In such cases, laparoscopy may be performed to allow the doctor to look inside the abdomen at these organs and help him determine what is wrong. |

Colposcopy is a diagnostic tool to determine the cause of abnormalities found in Pap smears. A colposcopy is a visual examination of the cervix and is a relatively simple and painless procedure, usually performed in your physician's office. The actual procedure lasts approximately ten to fifteen minutes. If your physician is able to view the entire abnormal area through the colposcope, a tissue sample or biopsy is taken from the whitest abnormal areas and sent to the lab for further evaluation. |
